The Pilates Level 1 Teacher Training Course
Our comprehensive Pilates Teacher Training covers the full foundational Pilates system, including Anatomy and Movement Principles, Mat I–III, Reformer I–III, Cadillac/Tower, Chair, Ladder Barrel, Teaching Principles, and Special Populations.
The program places strong emphasis on alignment, muscular balance, and dynamic, functional movement patterns. Students learn how to assess movement, recognize contraindications and safety considerations, and design thoughtful class and session plans. Modifications and progressions are explored throughout the training to help teachers work confidently with a wide range of bodies and abilities.
Drawing from both classical and contemporary Pilates principles, the training is designed to support the development of versatile, well-informed instructors. Throughout the program, students are guided and supported by Siobhan Roberts, Jennifer Martini, and a highly experienced team of Pilates educators.
Preparation for the Training
Participants are strongly encouraged to be comfortable performing intermediate-level Mat and Reformer exercises prior to beginning the program.
To help students prepare, we offer discounted introductory private sessions as well as group Mat and Reformer classes three times per week. These discounted rates are available exclusively to teacher training apprentices beginning in January 2026.
An open mind and the ability to fully participate physically are the only prerequisites to begin the training in September.
COURSE CURRICULUM
Principles of Pilates: Anatomy & Movement with Dr. Gotz Lehle
This course introduces the primary muscles and joints involved in human movement, with a focus on their application within Pilates practice and teaching. Designed specifically for Pilates teachers, the course is offered in a hybrid format. The lecture portion is taught online by Dr. Gotz Lehle from Florence, Italy, and is paired with an in-person hands-on component led by John Roberts, LAC/LMT.
Throughout the training, participants study Pilates exercises with specific reference to the muscles and joints involved, helping build a clear understanding of how the body moves and how to apply anatomical knowledge effectively in teaching.
Mat I: Introduction to Pilates Beginner and Intermediate Exercises
Mat I introduces students to the history and foundational principles of Pilates, along with the beginning mat exercise repertoire. Participants learn the fundamental exercises and are introduced to selected intermediate-level movements, including appropriate modifications.
The course also provides an overview of anatomy and basic movement principles, helping students understand how Pilates exercises support strength, alignment, and efficient movement patterns.
Mat II & III: Pilates Intermediate and Advanced Exercises
Mat II & III continue the study of the Pilates mat repertoire, covering the remaining intermediate exercises and progressing into advanced-level movements.
Students learn how to incorporate props both to support appropriate modifications and to challenge more advanced clients. By the end of this training, participants will have studied the full original Pilates mat repertoire and developed a deeper understanding of how to progress and adapt exercises for different bodies and skill levels.
Pilates Reformer I, II & III
This series introduces the Pilates Reformer and explores the full range of beginner, intermediate, and advanced exercises performed on the apparatus.
Students learn session sequencing, teaching cues for both private sessions and group classes, and techniques for working with clients at different levels of ability. The course also covers modifications and progressions that allow instructors to adapt exercises for individual needs while maintaining sound movement principles.
Cadillac / Tower: Pilates Exercises
learn proper equipment setup, safety considerations, and basic maintenance, along with how to integrate Cadillac and Tower exercises into a client’s session. The training is appropriate for learning work on the Trapeze Table, Tower, or Wall Unit.
Chair: Pilates Execises
Mat I introduces students to the history and foundational principles of Pilates, along with the beginning mat exercise repertoire. Participants learn the fundamental exercises and are introduced to selected intermediate-level movements, including appropriate modifications.
The course also provides an overview of anatomy and basic movement principles, helping students understand how Pilates exercises support strength, alignment, and efficient movement patterns.
LADDER BARREL: PILATES EXERCISES
Explore how the Ladder Barrel supports spinal mobility, flexibility, and core strength while learning how to incorporate these exercises effectively into Pilates sessions.
SPECIAL POPULATION
Learn about common special conditions, appropriate modifications, contraindications, and considerations for working with older adults and other populations that may require adapted movement strategies.
